Rules of Writing Roman Number
Some rules are used in Roman number numeral system, these rules are explaining below:

(1) Multiplication Rule: If a symbol is repeated in succession, the value of the numeral is obtained by multiplying the value of the symbol by the number of times is repeated. No symbol is repeated more than three times.
Examples:
II = 1x 2 = 2
111 = 1 x 3 = 3
XX = 10 x 2 = 20
XXX = 10x3 = 30
CCC = 100x 3 =300

(2) Addition Rule: When a smaller number is written on the right of a bigger number, the smaller number is added to the bigger number.
Examples: V111 = 5 + 1 + 1+1 = 8
XX11 = 10 + 10 + 1 + 1 = 23
CX X = 100 +10 + 10 = 120

(3) Subtraction Rule: When a smaller number is written on the left of the bigger number the smaller number is subtracted from the bigger number.
Examples: 1V = 5 - 1 = 4
CM = 1000 -100 =900
XL = 50 -10 = 40
XXC = 100 – 20 = 80

Important points for writing Roman numeral number system:

(a)The symbol 1 can be subtracted only from V and X.
(b) V, L, D are never subtracted.
(c)The symbol X can be subtracted only from L and C.
(d)The symbol C can be subtracted D and M once only.
(e)There is another symbol ___ called bar. It is placed over a numeral which is multiplied by1, 000.
