Expression:
An algebraic expression is a collection of one or more terms, which are separated by the signs + (plus) or/ and – (minus).
Value of an Expression:
The value of an expression is the numerical result when an integer is substituted in the variables of a given expression and simplified. It may be a multi-valued expression in which different variables are given different values and simplified.
In simple words, the value of an expression depends on the value of its variable(s)
Example:
If p = 8, q =1, r = 2, find the value of :
10pq – 3qr
4pqr – 2p
Solution:
Given, 10pq – 3qr p= 8, q=1, r=2
4pqr – 2p
Numerator: 10 pq – 3 qr (substituting the values of p, q, r)
= 10 x 8 x 1 – 3 x 1 x 2
= 80 – 6
= 74
Denominator: 4pqr – 2p (substituting the values of p, q, r)
= 4 x 8 x 2 – 2 x 8
= 64 – 16
= 48
Numerator = 74
Denominator 48
= 37

We can find L.C.M. of two or three or more numbers by division method.
STEPS:
1) Arrange the given numbers, in any order, in a line.
2) Divide by a number which exactly divides at least two of the given numbers and carry forward the numbers which are not divisible.
3) Repeat the process till none of the two given numbers are divisible by the same number.
4) The product of all divisors and the numbers left undivided is the required L.C.M (Least Common multiples)
Find the LCM of 65 and 91 by division method.
First we need to arrange the given numbers, in any order in a line, now we need to observe that the numbers 65 and 91 all the numbers are divided by 13, then we carry forward the number 5 and 7 which are not divisible by the same number. So, in the last step the product of all the divisors and the numbers left undivided i.e. 5 and 7 are the required L.C.M.
Therefore, L.C.M of 65 and 91 = 13 x 5 x 7.
= 273

A Mixed Fraction is a whole number Divide the numerator of the given fraction by its denominator. The quotient so obtained forms the whole number part and the remainder forms the numerator of the fractional part of the mixed number.
Another method is to divide the numerator by the denominator. The denominator divides twice into the numerator with a remainder of 8, giving a whole number of 2, a numerator of 8, and a denominator of 9.
On dividing, 23 by 7, we get
Quotient = 3 and Remainder = 2
A) Proper
B) Improper
C) Mixed

2) Every improper fraction can be converted to mixed fractions?
A) Yes
B) No
C) Cannot be determined
D) None of the above.
